Users React to Elon Musk Removing Like and Repost Counts on X
Elon Musk said Thursday that he plans to remove the number of likes and reposts from users’ feeds, and only “views” will appear on their timelines.
X users lamented the decision, saying that this is “too stupid” and “significantly reduces engagement”.
Famous X handle DogeDesigner first posted that X is considering removing the number of likes and new posts from the feed, but “it will still be visible when you tap on the post.”
Musk responded that this is “undoubtedly happening.”
“Only the number of views as a proxy for other metrics is shown on the timeline,” said the billionaire.
The idea did not go down well with X-users.
“This reduces engagement because people tend to engage with posts they see getting a lot of likes,” one user commented.
Another posted that “this would be too silly and would greatly reduce engagement and not really accomplish anything positive.”
One X user suggested that Musk should add a “dislike button.”
Musk recently announced that X users will soon have a feature that will allow their followers to see pinned posts.
The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX said in the message that the feature would allow one pinned message every 48 hours.
“There’s a change coming to our recommendation algorithm that will make sure all your followers see your pinned posts,” the billionaire told his followers.
